Constipation on GLP-1s: fiber, water, and the order that matters.
Constipation can occur during GLP-1 treatment as digestion, appetite, and fluid intake change. Consistent hydration should accompany fiber added gradually. Persistent symptoms, severe pain, vomiting, blood, fever, or inability to pass stool or gas require prompt medical guidance.
Why the order matters
When fluid intake is low, suddenly adding a large amount of fiber may increase bloating or discomfort. Begin with regular hydration, then increase tolerated fiber gradually. Comfortable movement can also support bowel regularity.
Food first, when tolerated
Fruit, vegetables, beans, oats, and other fiber-containing foods can be added in portions that fit appetite and tolerance. Supplements and over-the-counter treatments are not automatically appropriate for everyone; ask the prescriber or pharmacist when medications or health conditions complicate the choice.
Do not wait through warning signs
Contact the clinic for persistent or worsening constipation. Severe or sudden abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, blood, fever, dehydration, or inability to pass stool or gas deserves prompt assessment rather than another home remedy.
Track the pattern
Note bowel changes, fluids, food, symptoms, and treatment timing so the clinician can see the sequence. See the first four weeks on semaglutide and OWC medical weight loss.
Results vary. Optimal Wellness Clinic currently prescribes compounded GLP-1 medications only when a licensed provider determines they are medically necessary and appropriate. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved or generic equivalents of branded products, and results from branded-drug trials do not establish results for compounded preparations.
