GLP-1s in perimenopause: why weight behaves differently after 40.

During perimenopause, changing hormone patterns can affect sleep, appetite, body composition, and recovery. GLP-1 treatment may be considered after an individual evaluation, but it does not replace assessment of hormone symptoms, muscle health, nutrition, or other causes of weight change.

Why weight can feel different after 40

Perimenopause can bring disrupted sleep, changing cycles, hot flashes, mood symptoms, and shifts in body composition. Those changes can affect appetite, movement, recovery, and where weight is carried. They do not make progress impossible, but they make a generic plan less useful.

What a GLP-1 can and cannot do

GLP-1 medications act on pathways involved in appetite and fullness. They do not diagnose perimenopause, restore sleep, build muscle, or decide whether hormone therapy is appropriate. Medication decisions require an individual evaluation, and response varies.

Why muscle belongs in the plan

Weight loss can include lean mass as well as fat. Protein and progressive resistance training support the goal of preserving muscle, function, and strength. That matters at every age and becomes especially important during midlife.

Bring cycle changes, sleep, hot flashes, medications, previous weight treatments, and goals to the same conversation. Read the perimenopause guide, explore medical weight loss, or begin with the no-obligation survey and analysis.

Results vary. Optimal Wellness Clinic currently prescribes compounded GLP-1 medications only when a licensed provider determines they are medically necessary and appropriate. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved or generic equivalents of branded products, and results from branded-drug trials do not establish results for compounded preparations.
